The Art Journal - 1853, 1858, 1859
Home > About Our Magazines > Miscellaneous Magazines > The Art Journal - 1853, 1858, 1859
|
The Art Journal was founded in 1839 in London and was considered "the most important Victorian magazine on art." Naturally it covered artists, art reviews, and art announcements. However, it also covered many other topics more loosely tied to the "arts" theme, such as features on travel, history, archaeology and science. It was packed with beautiful illustrations and each volume usually contained a series of fine art engravings. Some editions also included lavishly illustrated "catalogs" of a current exhibition. For more information, visit Wikipedia. The complete volumes for 1858 and 1859 (along with many other issues) are available on Archive.org.
