The Monthly Chronicle of North Country Lore and Legend was published "for the proprietors of The Newcastle Weekly Chronicle by Walter Scott, publishers, Newcastle-on-Tyne. It was a round-up of everything "North Country" - profiles of towns, villages, manors, castles, etc.; noteworthy people past and present; history, folklore and legend; and the natural history of the area. It focused on the "border country" - including the regions of Durham, Newcastle-on-Tyne, York, the Lake Districts, etc. Only five volumes were published - 1887 to 1891. All five volumes can be downloaded for free at Archive.org.
