Victorian People:
Illustrated Interviews from The Strand

Home > Victorian People > Performers & Celebrities > Illustrated Interviews from The Strand

The Strand ran a regular series of "Illustrated Interviews" that featured the most notable celebrities of the day, including politicians, artists, authors, actors, explorers and more. These interviews were, indeed, lavishly illustrated, and generally gave the reader an intimate look at the interviewee's family and home. Many articles included numerous photos of the interiors of the interviewee's houses - houses which, often, have become tourist destinations today. Hence, this series offers a unique opportunity to get a glimpse of what some of Britain's top tourist sites looked like when they were actually lived in. (To find more articles about these individuals, check the topical section indicated in brackets, e.g., "Artist".)
