Victorian Pastimes & Recreations:
Riding, Racing & Driving

Home > Recreation > Outdoor Recreations > Riding, Racing & Driving

In most cases, when you see an article about "driving" in a Victorian magazine, it refers to handling a team of horses and some form of conveyance. This section does bring you some articles on driving in the more modern sense: the automobile! For Victorians, however, sports involving transportation typically involved the horse - and articles abounded on how to ride and "drive" correctly. This section also looks at horse racing and other horsey sports.

Motors and Motoring, by N.G. Bacon (Girl's Own Paper, 1900)
