As one of the writers below notes, it's very easy for the tourist to assume that France is Paris and Paris is France. But nothing, he concludes, is farther from the truth. These articles take you on a tour of France beyond Paris, with its magnificent towns, ancient castles, elegant chateaux, Roman ruins, and rustic countryside. (The same author makes the interesting observation that the French landscape is the landscape of the peasant, not, like England, the landscape of the landlord.)
