retaining the original “look” as much as possible. (The original also
            has lovely decorative page headers and footers, but since these were
            not reproducible from the electronic file, I’ve added my own from
            my collection of Victorian artwork.)
               I’ve also included Twain’s delightful introduction and review of
            the book.  Of course, it reproduces quite a bit of the book’s content,
            but  Twain’s commentary on the students’ responses—and their
            implications for  the state  of public education  in his day and, one
            can’t help but feel, our own—are not to be missed.
